Family Finances
Your money can take care of you. It cannot take care of itself. Plan to
make your money take care of you. Each family must make its own plans. Older
children should share in family planning. Everyone must have some basic
things like food, housing, and transportation. Your records, bills, canceled
checks, receipts, and what you can remember will also help you plan.
1. What do you Want?
You may want to think about things you want soon and in the future.
Things you want to do soon:
pay all bills
buy or make clothes
buy a piece of furniture
take children to the dentist
Things you may want in the future:
a different place to live
education for the children
a family trip
money for a “rainy day”
2. How much money is coming in?
3. How do you spend your money each day?
NOW WHAT?
watch where the money goes
write down what you spend
To cut costs, you might:
buy more carefully
take better care of things you buy
avoid quick decisions
REMEMBER...
You can make your money help you have:
a good health
a comfortable home
funds for a “rainy day”
recreation
education
Other major program thrusts include consumer skills and family financial
management whether it be in basic budgeting or home buying. Beginning
in 2003, A High School Financial Literacy Fair was conducted to facilitate
financial literacy among our high school seniors and a New Home Buyers
School was offered to assist prospective home owners in the home buying
process.
