Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club
Benefit Open Horse Show

Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club put on their first Horse Show April 27th, at the Person County Saddle Club.

Youth participate in shows such as this one for the fun of it and to gain important experience. Shows are held to encourage youth to learn how to fit and train a horse to compete in horse shows, to give the youth an opportunity to participate in a show and evaluate the progress they have made, to learn to work together in helping each other solve training problems and help each other fit their horse properly, and to encourage youth to select and train their own horse for competition. It also teaches youth that they must be primarily responsible for the management and training of their project horse.

There were a total of 53 classes, with Person County 4-H youth participating in several of those classes. The horse show was sanctioned by the Triangle Wide Horsemen's Association, which resulted in people from several surrounding counties driving up to Person County to take part in the show.

The money from our sponsors went towards purchasing ribbons and trophies for the show. Some sponsors even donated prizes that were raffled off to raise money for the Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club. Some Person County 4-H'ers were lucky enough to walk away with a few ribbons. We would like to congratulate Julia Foushee, who went home with a trophy for Youth High Point Champion. Congratulations to all of our participants and thanks to everyone who helped make this Horse Show such a success.
